Valérie is responsible for fundamental research and investment process, corporate governance and engagement, and is the firm’s link to the global sustainable finance ecosystem.
As a co-founder and managing partner at Borealis Global Asset Management, Valérie is responsible for fundamental research and investment process, corporate governance and engagement, as well as the firm’s link to the global sustainable finance ecosystem.
Valérie currently chairs the Investment Committee of the Foundation of Greater Montreal, one of the largest community foundations in Canada, dedicated to the development of a community that will be free from poverty and discrimination, where all can realize their potential and live in a healthy environment.
Valerie is also member of the Investment Committee of HEC Fund, which oversees the management of the HEC Montréal Foundation and HEC School endowment funds.
Valerie has received many rewards, including Fund Data Awards for the performance of her US midcap fund in 2015 and 2016, the title of Portfolio Manager of the year in 2016 in Québec by Financial Executives, and the CPA Emerite Award in 2019 by CPA Québec.
Valerie holds a master’s in finance, is a CFA chartered holder and a CPA, and was the first portfolio manager to obtain the FSA (Fundamentals of Sustainability Accounting) designation from SASB in Canada. She also holds the CFA ESG Certification. Valérie fluently speaks French, English and Italian.
With more than 25 years of experience in the investment industry, Florent has attained strong expertise in managing portfolios with exposure to most asset classes and financial instruments.
Florent began his career as a Credit Risk analyst for National Bank of Canada and subsequently went to work for the Fixed income team of CN Pension fund in Montréal. He then joined Desjardins Global Asset Management where he was given the opportunity to develop, launch and manage many innovative products such as multi-asset class funds, index products, and structured notes, targeting both retail and institutional investors.
As Vice president responsible for financial engineering, he developed and successfully managed a fund of hedge funds that reached over $ 6 billion in assets under management at its peak, making it the largest fund of its kind in Canada at the time.
Before co-founding Borealis GAM, Florent was an independent consultant for large institutional investors in the field of alternative investments, quantitative finance, passive indexing, risk modelling, and portfolio insurance.
Florent holds a master’s degree in finance and is a CFA chartered holder. He also holds the Financial Risk Management and Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst designations. He also received the FSA certification from the SASB Foundation.
As our main consultant, Luc is responsible for Borealis' technological platform, data science and computational finance.
With more than 20 years of experience, Luc has developed and led several large-scale technological projects in different sectors. Most recently, he led public markets middle office teams for a major institutional investor for several years before taking over the data science team. He has extensive knowledge of both technology, financial data and quantitative methods applied to traditional investing in an institutional setting.
As Head of Technology and Research, he directs data science activities in support of investment, the development of new technological tools to optimize our investment processes, the digitization of our research process as well as the as the management of the company's technological infrastructures.
Holder of a master's degree in mathematical and computational finance as well as a holder of the CFA, he is also a member of the Order of Engineers of Quebec.
With more than 8 years of experience in the investment and wealth management industry, Roberto is in charge of the fundamental research and analysis of listed companies across sectors and geographies.
Prior to joining Borealis GAM, Roberto managed portfolios invested in equity securities on behalf of retail and institutional clients at Cassa Centrale Banca, a major Italian banking group, and Banque Transatlantique, a French private bank. He also conducted in-depth financial research, with a particular focus on Information Technology, Consumer Discretionary, Consumer Staples and Industrials sectors.
Previously, he worked as an investment analyst for Natixis Wealth Management.
Roberto holds a Master’s degree in Finance and International Business and a Master’s degree in Wealth Management. He fluently speaks French, English and Italian.
